How a plumber became a successful entrepreneur

The sheer enjoyment derived from building a pond in his backyard induced plumber Paul Mancheski to start a business, Waterscape Designs in 2002, constructing and charting ponds, streams and waterfalls for homeowners in Wisconsin.

With his wife Justine as partner, Mancheski built a business on something that he’s really passionate about and is making a success of it! Their lack of business acumen was compensated by performing extensive research and by seeking the counsel of other business owners and advisors. This included participating in the NxLeveL Entrepreneurial Training Series wherein bankers, an attorney, accountant, marketing specialist and others shared their experience and astuteness on how to effectively run the business.

Starting by working on weekends, Paul and Justine Mancheski nurtured their passion as the driving force for expanding their business. The constant support of external bodies guided them through the various aspects of running the business. They have made WaterScape Designs a platform for converting their dream into a reality, and that is a feat very few have managed to accomplish.

The invention of three University of Wisconsin-Madison engineering students, Nick O’Brien, Mitchell Nick and Chandler Nault, that was submitted to the annual Schoof’s Prize for Creativity, could be a major turning point for enhancing safety standards for firefighters today.

Firesite, as they’ve dubbed it, is a navigational system that helps firefighters navigate through burning, smoke-filled structures by aiding them in identifying their current location. Firesite is now being treated as a marketable product that has the power to save the lives of  firefighters and fire victims more effectively.

Today, FireSite is a patent pending technology, with an eye on the huge market potential extended by over 32,000 fire departments throughout the U.S.

FireSite today enjoys the support of Ayla Annac, southwest regional director for the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs’ Network who aids them in hunting for additional funds through loans and grants to channel their opportunity in the right direction.

Fighting the setbacks extended by the challenges of their tender age, the team is all set to tide over these obstacles in order to bring their innovative lifesaving product into the mainstream market.
