Don’t let family come in the way of business success
If you’re going to be successful, you’ve got to love your business more than anything else – even your family.
So says George Cloutier of Entrepreneur.com in a bold claim that family obligations should always take a backseat to your business obligations in order for business to thrive. It’s certainly not an easy or popular attitude to adopt, but he suggest that if you refuse to put your business before all other considerations, family included, then you’ve already resolved to a life of “financial mediocrity”.
As much as the wife would like more romantic dinners and long baths with you now, in the long run when you are wealthy she will appreciate being financially sound. Your children will appreciate the security of you being at the head of a thriving business more than they will you being at a ballet recital. Or will they?
Cloutier explains why you’ll be happier in the long run if you make your business your first love.

While he makes some interesting points, I couldn’t disagree with Mr. Cloutier more.

You’re right about Coultier making some interesting points John, thought his stance is a little too extreme for my tastes. No one on their deathbed says “I wish I had spent more time at the office”. People usually regret not spending enough time with family. The trick is to strike a balance between your work life and family life, so that everybody’s happy. Your money won’t kiss you goodnight, or bake you cookies, so family must be nurtured too. Unless you dont care much for goodnight kisses…
