Forget the business plan, do this instead

Writing a business plan is no guarantee that your new business will be successful. In fact, writing a business plan and sticking to it fervently could mean failure. Consider this: you wrote a plan in 2006, with a three-year marketing strategy centred around Myspace as a choice social media tool… and you stuck to that plan – #epicfail!

The moral of the story is “Things don’t go as planned… so how are you supposed to write a three-year projection with a straight face?”

Jason Cohen of A Smart Bear presents some pretty convincing arguments on why the business plan paradigm does not represent how real (small) businesses operate. Instead, he suggests how your time could be better spent.
