Some places are more conducive to startups than others. Factors such as the state of the local economy, cost of labour, real estate market and the crime rate all influence the chances of your new business being successful. These factors vary across towns and cities, so a new business in one town might fare better than a new business in another.

CNN Money lists the 50 best places to start a business, selected by considering the aforementioned factors and others. Topping the list is Oklahoma City which is described as “a haven for entrepreneurial risk takers”, with its diverse local economy spread across medical research, energy, education and government, low foreclosure rate, and high concentration of deep-pocketed investors.
