The Key to Managing Multiple Businesses

Is it possible to manage multiple disparate businesses all at once and have them all succeed? My knee-jerk response is “no”. There just aren’t enough hours in a day to devote to several businesses and have them all flourish. Neil Patel of QuickSprout.com shares my sentiments and describes any attempt to run several businesses at once as “the biggest mistake you’re going to make”. Patel puts forward a very convincing argument basically summarized in the statement, “if you’re splitting your time between a few businesses, you won’t be able to put in the required amount of time and energy into any of them”. Touché.

However, the readers of the Small Business Survival blog in their weekly think-tank SBBuzz Chat, presented an alternative perspective. By their accounts, it is in fact possible to run multiple successful businesses using four key strategies to make it work. One strategy is to find common themes across the multiple businesses, or consolidate tasks where possible.
