Twitter is really popular, but it’s not making any money off its popularity. Which is why they want you.
The money-losing microblogging service is hiring workers who can help turn it into a self-sustaining online business. Engineers and specialists are amongst the 26 job openings listed on the Twitter website, “looking for new members of our technical staff to work on cutting edge monetization projects”. The keyword here is “monetization”, i.e. Twitter wants you to turn tweets into money. How will that be done? Well, they’re anticipating that you will have the answer to that.
This move to invest in human resources indicates that generating revenues is one of the 2010 priorities for Twitter. The pundits are anxious to see whether an injection of new creative thinkers will help turn Twitter into a real money-maker.
